Q.  Do you arrange pick up and drop off for dogs?

A.  Yes we collect your dog from your home or place of work at a prearranged time and return them after their walk. Dogs are transported in a securely fitted dog walking van, either with seatbelts or in crates for safety. Dog will never be left alone in a vehicle as we always transport and walk dogs in pairs.

Q.  Do we need to be home for you to collect / drop off my dog?

A.  No, clients are welcome to place keys with The Dog Port and give instructions on where your dog prefers to spend time when you're not home.

Q.  What conditions do you have for our dog to be registered with you?

A.  We only offer group walks at this stage, to attend one of our small walking groups dogs must be sociable with other dogs, fully vaccinated and neutered (with the exception of puppies). We prefer dogs to be walked on a harness for safety andto prevent strain on the neck. Dogs will only be allowed off leash exercise with consent and if we are comfortable with their recall.

Q.  What services do you offer for puppies?

A.  Puppies tend to need out every 2-3 hours, we will arrange two comfort visits for your puppy - each for a minimum of 45 minutes to clean up any mishaps, allow time for toiletting, feeding and company. When puppies are fully vaccinated we will take them for short walks to help socialise them and begin their behaviour training.

Q.  Are you insured?

A.  Yes we have public liability and are insured as dog walkers through Pet Plan.  We have current Disclosure Scotland certificates and are trained in canine first aid.

Q.  Where do you walk dogs?

A.  We cover the East of Edinburgh and as such most of our walks take place in the surrounding areas including Portobello beach, Newhailes and Meadows Yard Nature Reserve. We do think dogs enjoy some variety and have various gated parks and secure fields we visit which are especially useful when ensuring dogs recall is predictable in a safe enclosed environment.

Q.  Will my dog be supervised at all times?

A.  Yes, we ensure that your dog is constantly supervised. We keep our group walk numbers under 6 dogs to two humans. When collecting and returning dogs, they will never be left alone in the van as these are always carried out with two people in the vehicle to allow one person to manage collectons / drop offs while the second remains in the van with the other dogs.
